Based on real-life events, One Night is a short dance / doc film about the emotional journey a young woman takes to change her life forever. Through a physical tale of awakening, overwhelm and release - the film explores the inner turmoil of realising the reality of being a survivor of domestic abuse.

Dancer Statement - Chevon Edwards
I knew that one day I wanted to explore my experience leaving an abusive relationship. I found my healing journey to be such a powerful one that it inspired me to share my story with the hopes of inspiring others. The creative process making this film has definitely been a cathartic one, and one of which I recognise I was ready to take on three years after leaving the relationship.
I developed the movement from a therapeutic process I went under to access and gain a physical understanding of embodied trauma. From this process, I chose extracts of movement that spoke to me the most that felt an authentic expression of my journey. I wrote and recorded the poem heard in the film instinctively, read in three distinct ways to express my healing journey.
Director Statement - Isla Badenoch
We broke the movements down into three acts; awakening, overwhelm and release. Visualising Chevon’s state of mind throughout, artful and symbolic yet with documentary-style footage with Chevon in her family home reflecting on the truth of where she is today.
We want to humanize survivors as we are more than statistics and victims. I want audiences to be moved, to become truly invested advocates for the end to violence against women. I want those who have experienced domestic abuse to be patient and kind to ourselves and to heal.
